To enterprising businessmen like Samuel Blodget, the river was a springboard for commerce, but for the Boston Brahmins who founded the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company – thanks to the brilliant engineers and gifted architects they employed – the Merrimack River and the Amoskeag Falls would serve as the backbone for industry.
