Mill Building

The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company’s Millyard evolved over a period of about one hundred years, from the construction of the first mills and power canals by the company in the 1830s to the company’s collapse in 1936.  It spanned both the east and west banks of the Merrimack River for more than a mile in the center of Manchester and to many, the Millyard resembled a walled city.

Listen here to learn more about how the Millyard was designed, as written by Preservation Consultant Lisa Mausolf.  As you listen, be sure to take a look at the three-dimensional Millyard model.
